Everest Base Camp Trek

The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek will provide you with a natural thrill as it takes you through breath-taking high-altitude landscapes, esoteric Buddhist monasteries, traditional Sherpa villages, high-altitude flora and fauna, and snow-capped mountains. Climbing Mount Everest Base Camp is a milestone in mountaineering.

The most spectacular high-altitude trek in the mountains of Nepal - prepare for jaw-dropping scenery and a unique cultural experience exploring the challenging trekking routes,hiking on the Khumbu glacier through small villages over many suspension bridges looking at Mt. Everest and the Khumbu Valley, following in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary.  

The Everest Base Camp trek passes through the land of the Sherpas to the foot of the world’s highest mountain, Sagarmatha, Nepalese for Mount Everest.

Itinerary:

Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel

➢ Upon your Arrival at Kathmandu Airport, a representative from Scenic taken to your Hotel and brief you about all trip plans.

Day 02: Pick from your Hotel and Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding (2,651m/8,700ft): 40 minutes flight; 8km, 3 - 4 hours trek.

➢ About 40 minutes of mountain flight will take you to Lukla the gateway of Everest region trekking in Nepal. In clear weather the scenes that you see from your plane window is mesmerising.

➢ We will meet the rest of our crew members in Lukla and head out to Phakding after a brief tea break.

Note: Please note that we may need to fly from Ramechhap Airport, dependent on Aviation Decision. Ramechhap Airport is located at 4 hrs drive from Kathmandu.

Day 03: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,438m/11,280 ft): 11km, 5 - 6 hours

➢ We will trek a relatively easy trail until we reach Larpchen Bridge at the foothill of Namche Bazaar. Crossing numerous suspension bridges and passing villages like Benkar, Manjo etc. Near Manjo our permits will be checked, and we enter the Sagarmatha National Park.

➢ Views include Thamserku and Kusum Kangaru, moreover after 1.5 hours of uphill walking from Larpchen Bridge in clear weather you have first view of Mount Everest as well. The sight of clustered Namche Bazaar can relieve your tiredness of walking.

Day 04: Acclimatisation Day - Namche Bazaar: (3,440m/11,284ft)

➢ Today is acclimatisation day in hope to keep you healthy - after breakfast we will hike towards Everest View Hotel.

➢ From the balcony of this hotel, you have panoramic view of mountains like Amadablam, Thamserku, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Tabuche and others. Then a nice lazy stroll back to the lodge in Namche observing Everest Museum and hustling of Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge.

Day 05: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,870m/12,694ft): 10km, 5- 6 hours

➢ With Everest in the far distance, you will crave to reach there as we trek through lush green forests on either side of the trail and hordes of Jokpyo/Yaks carrying goods to keep you happy.

➢ The journey consists of flat, downhill and uphill walking. Be blessed by sight of Khumbu Valley from top of Tengboche on either side including gigantic Mt. Amadablam looming at backdrop. Take a walk around monastery in evening before chilling out at the dining hall of tea house.

➢ Overnight at Teahouse/Lodge

Day 06: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft): 9km, 5 - 6 hours

➢ This day will be picturesque, rivers, forests and hilly landscape with mountains in the background.

➢ Once we trek past Pangboche and Somare, there awaits the valley of Dingboche between Nagarshan hill, Chhukung Valley and Amadablam Mountain.

Day 07: Dingbouche Rest Day

• Today have rest day in Dingbouche.

Day 08: Dingbouche to Lobuche (4940 m/16,207 ft): 4km, 2 - 4 hours

➢ We ascend all the way up to Lobuche, with some occasional rough flat trail. With grassy meadows and bushes to add to the mix.

➢ The most memorable portion of this day’s trekking would be the Everest Memorial in Thukla Pass and sight of Pumori, Lobuche, Cholatse and other mountains. Lobuche is small tranquil village on the bank of a river facing the Kong Ma La Pass.

Day 09: Lobuche to GorakShep (5170 m/16,961ft), visit Everest Base Camp (5364 m/17,594 ft): 13km, 6-7 hours.

➢ After climbing the Lobuche Pass we will walk through the moraine. The trail is rugged and rocky which requires careful walking. Once you have reached the Gorakshep we will keep our baggage and have lunch.

➢ After lunch we set out to reach Everest Base Camp. After walking for 1.5 hours, you reach the most coveted place, making memories have your camera ready. We will again trek back to Gorakshep for overnight stay.

Day 10: GorakShep to Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,192ft) to Pherice (4,288m/14,070ft): 16km, 7-8 hours

➢ Early in the morning we will climb the Kalapathar before sunrise. Behold the mesmerising sight of sun rays kissing gigantic mountains.

➢ Such a wonderful sight is really worth all the hardship and physical endurance that you have spent getting here. We then trek downhill towards Pheriche trekking past Gorakshep, Lobuche and Thukla.

Day 11: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,280 ft): 20km, 6 - 7 hours

➢ The trail is same as you have ascended but don’t forget to enjoy the return trip. Our experts say that while you return you will see the different perspectives and landscape.

Day 12: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,860m/9,186ft): 19km, 6 - 7 hours

➢ The most joyous day of our trekking is this day. With memory of Everest journey in mind we jovially trek downhill and through Manjo & Phakding to reach Lukla.

➢ Evening can be fun filled with celebrations among crew members and trekking partners. Relish Nepalese delicacies or drinks and enjoy the last evening in Khumbu region of Nepal.

Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu and Transfer to your Hotel.

➢ The flight will take us back to Kathmandu and we then transfer to the hotel. You have got a free day in Kathmandu. From here our program will be ended.

➢ Tonight, our amazing hosts offers us a complimentary Nepalese Cultural dinner where you get to experience local authentic dances and Food.

Day 14: Easy Day / Reserve Day in Kathmandu

Accommodations during Trek

During trek, you will be accommodated in Teahouse. Normally Teahouse are basic lodge with private room. You may have to share with other people when there are limited spaces.

Meals

During your trek, you will be given a menu for you to order your meals from.

Any kind of drinks are not included in your price, but you can buy these directly from the Lodge and shops and cafes etc.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

Trekking to Everest Base Camp is moderate trek, which is good for those who have hiking experience and good physical fitness, but special Training isn’t needed. Please do tell us if you have any pre-existing medical condition such as heart, lung, and blood diseases before you come to Nepal!

Important Information

• Visas are purchased upon arrival from most countries. Check here for list of countries that require visas in advance.

• Upon entry, you will need to have:

o Passport, which must be valid for at least another 6 months and have at least two blank visa pages.

o Photocopies of personal information on passport.

o 2 extra passport-size photos (1.5 in X 1.5 in with a white background).

o Airline tickets showing departure date.

o Completed and signed Nepal visa application form, which could be completed online before you travel.

o Proof of accommodation (we will supply).

o Proof of having paid Nepal visa fee (which you pay for in cash upon arrival).

o Proof of travel insurance (see below).

• Travel health insurance – All travelers into Nepal must provide proof of travel health insurance that covers emergency search, rescue, treatment, and other expenses (Costs between £50-£150)

• Bring dollars, pounds or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa ($30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days) at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants and hotels, for gratuities, snacks, and to purchase your own drinks and gifts.

• Bring Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash machine cards for withdrawing funds from cash machines (have a photo of your cards).

COVID-19 and other Vaccination Requirements for Nepal

• COVID-19 – As of 5/31/22, there is no requirement of COVID-19 vaccines to enter Nepal, but this could change. But we are asking all travelers to be fully vaccinated, including recent boosters, on our trek.

• There are no other vaccine requirements for Nepal, except for Yellow Fever if you are travelling from a country with high YF virus transmission. But the US Centers for Disease Control recommends that you are up-to-date on routine vaccines. It also recommends to receive Hepatitis A & B and Typhoid. We will not be an any areas that have malaria risks.
